The International Summer School Tashkent 2026 (ISST 2026) brings together students, researchers, and academics for the International Workshop on Architectural Heritage Conservation and Hydrogeological Investigation, providing a unique interdisciplinary learning experience at the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bukhara.
Centered on the historic Chor Bakr Complex, the workshop combines lectures, practical training, and field investigations to explore the relationship between architectural heritage, groundwater conditions, moisture dynamics, and monument conservation. Participants will gain hands-on experience using modern surveying and geophysical equipment while working directly on one of Central Asia's most remarkable historical monuments.
- Document historic architecture through architectural surveys, measured drawings, photographic documentation, and condition assessment of heritage structures
- Investigate hydrogeological processes using modern geophysical and electronic instruments to identify groundwater distribution, moisture conditions, and their influence on the long-term preservation of historic buildings
- Assess the technical condition of monuments through visual inspections, instrumental measurements, moisture analysis, and deformation mapping to better understand deterioration mechanisms
- Study the Chor Bakr Complex, a unique UNESCO World Heritage monument and one of Central Asia's most significant architectural ensembles, while learning about its history, construction techniques, and conservation challenges
- Explore conservation and restoration methodologies by analyzing the relationship between environmental conditions, building materials, and structural deterioration, forming the scientific basis for sustainable preservation
- Collaborate in international multidisciplinary teams, exchanging knowledge and practical experience with students, researchers, and professors from partner universities
- Experience the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan through guided visits to the historic cities of Tashkent and Bukhara, discovering their remarkable architecture, traditions, and world-famous hospitality
